Out There In the World of Kids

What is Young Life?

Young Life is a non-profit organization that genuinely cares about kids. It starts with adults who are concerned enough about kids to go to them, on their turf and in their culture, building bridges of authentic friendship. These relationships don't happen overnight — they take time, patience, trust and consistency. Young Life staff and volunteer leaders log many hours with kids — where they are, as they are. We listen to their stories and learn what's important to them because we truly care about their joys, triumphs, heartaches and setbacks. We love kids regardless of their responses.

We believe in the power of presence. Kids' lives are dramatically influenced when caring adults come alongside them, sharing God's love with them. Because their Young Life leader believes in them, they begin to see that their lives have great worth, meaning and purpose.

When did it start?
Students at Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas attended the first Young Life club in 1941, and now one million young people are reached through Young Life annually. In the region where it all began, Young Life is active in 35 areas and 140 middle schools and high schools in Dallas, Collin, Denton, Rockwall and Tarrant counties. Countless lives have been changed - and continue to be changed - through Young Life.
Young Life in Lake Highlands began around 1967 and, thankfully, is still going strong. We have expanded our ministry to Lake Highlands Freshman Center, Lake Highlands Junior High and Forest Meadow Junior High. Our program for junior high kids is called WyldLife.
